#instabasics: Making Instagram Work for Your Brand

Updated: Jan 6, 2019

Open up your Instagram right now and you’re bound to get assaulted with #foodporn from all over the globe.

Knowing how to use Instagram for your benefit will help drive people right through your doors.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: we eat with our eyes first and foremost!

Only it’s more than just popping up picture-perfect professionally-shot food photos to get them there. True, it will be the first thing they see, but what makes it different from the gobs of other food photos on Instagram right now? Here are some tips for engaging your adoring public to make them more likely to pop in for a bite.

1. Have some personality

Instagram is an amazing tool to easily become entrenched in the lives of the people you want to reach. Have fun with it. Don’t just post a beautiful photo of your food. Say something interesting about it, or even ask a fun question to engage them.

2. Use those #hashtags

Hashtags help you come up in searches which means more people can find you. There are endless opportunities here to take a bigger bite of the market by commenting and engaging with those who post images that have your own unique hashtags too. Pre-existing tags can help get you noticed and new tags can help you track and connect to grow your online influence.

3. Let your pictures tell the story

If you always post a photo with the exact description, you’re missing the fun and the point. Try using wording that evokes imagery of something tangentially related. For example, talk about the weather and how sitting down to a massive burger on a hot summer's day on The Esplanade after a day out and about in Cairns is absolute bliss. Or if you have a new cocktail, get an action shot of it with people enjoying it and having fun in your establishment with a caption that reads, “Why aren’t you here too?” Don’t forget the hashtags!

At The Dirty Apron & Co., we have plenty more Instagram tactics to help you make the most of your social media presence. If you don’t want to do it yourself, we’re happy to do it for you.
